LG Hom-Bot 3.0

According to a short review on lesnumeriques.com (via kelrobot.fr) LG is preparing to announce the third generation of the Hom-bot robot line. The Hom-bot 3.0 seems to be an entirely new generation with a square shape and longer side brushes. The main concept behind the robot is unchanged: it uses state of the art technology to systematically clean all the floor in the house. The LG VR1229RB uses ultrasonic sensors to measure distances from the robot, has gyro sensors to detect collisions and confirms all movements with one camera watching the ceiling, and another one measuring all shifts on the ground.

The new shape allowed engineers to increase the inner volume of the dust bin from 0.45 l (15 fl oz) to 0.6 l (20 fl oz) and the LG Hom-bot 3.0 now runs for 100 minutes on one charge. The HEPA filter is now down to grade H10 from grade H11, what means 85% efficiency instead of 95% of older models. The noise level increased from 48 dB to 60dB, although European LG models have always carried a higher noise level indicator than those sold in South Korea (48 dB is from the South Korean version).

Based on the videos of lesnumeriques.com, the Hom-Bot 3.0 works fine even on carpet, and this could be the most important change from previous models. To achieve this the engineers had to get rid of the mopping feature (microfiber cloth attached to the bottom of the robot).

The Hom-Bot 3.0 tested by lesnumeriques.com was a pre-production unit, and there is no official word from LG when and where the VR1229RB will be available. According to the article, the robot is expected to sell for €600.
